plo 50 apex predator

 a challenging session

Just had a pretty tough session. I felt like I played great, I did everything right. But I experienced a lot (or what felt like a lot) of negative variance. This session was a good challenge. It challenged my mental game. I feel anguished and had to call the session early on account of my emotional state. This is fine. It is fine for me to have losing sessions, and it is fine for me to feel frustration and anger when I experience a string of bad beats. Or even just one. Or even just lose a pot for any reason. I am emotionally invested in being a winning poker player. And that is okay.

I would like to become a PLO $50 apex predator. I want to work on my game. I want to set goals. What should should I set? X amount of study per week. To put in as much high quality volume as I can. To make good quitting decisions. Intensive cardio every morning. To maintain a strict diet. Going for walks. Reading. Pursuing other interests. Living a balanced life.

For study, right now I have RIO essential videos. That is an okay resource that I will try to take advantage of during the next month. In the future, I will look at a subscription to vision or monker. OR PLO mastermind. RIO essential videos should provide okay returns for now. I need to commit time to studying. I also want to review some of the hands that I played.

Overall it was a great session. I feel like I made excellent decisions over all. The average quality of my decisions was high.  This was a model session, and one that I hope to model my next session on. My biggest issue with the session was my mental game. I was mentally quite weak after experiencing a string of bad beats. I had a strong emotional reaction and it made me question my ability to continue, despite playing for only a short period of time. One thing I did very well was not check my tracker for wins or losses the whole time. I feel I table selected well, and made pretty good technical decisions as well. I also employed a bit of experimentation which is great. I want to take my game to the next level and start experimenting a bit with different strategies. Later on I will review some hands from this session. After my morning cardio I want to have a long study session too. Probably I will play first though, I had a great session after cardio yesterday.

My day should look something like this :
(unlikely these will be exact timings)

7:30 to 8:00 ish StarCraft

8:00 until 10 swimming laps

10:00 to 12:00 poker (want to make sure to do another session recap like this post, as well as pre session writeup)

12:00 to 2 article writing

2 to 3 study session (videos, hand review)

basketball
more study
