post session recap

post session recap imo, another great session.  probably lost a bunch, I still don't know, but overall I feel great about my play and my decisions. I feel I grew a lot this session. Unfortunately a lot of pots didn't go my way. I lost a few flips, got a bad run out when I slow played my set, and then made a bad cold call pre which caused me to end the session. But I had a great heads up battle, and over all I think my play was excellent with a good touch of creativity. I felt great the whole time, and my mental game was strong until the end when it wasn't and I quit immediately. This was a session of growth. Alright. I finally looked at my results. -$161 for my first session, and $-227 for my second. It looks bad at first glance, losing at a rate of around 80 bb / 100! But let's look at some hands. First one, KKT9s, I four bet pre MP vs BU against aggro whale playing 69/46/26 (26% three bet) over 180 hands. A non standard four bet but a fine adapation to an overly aggr...

plo 50 apex predator

a challenging session Just had a pretty tough session. I felt like I played great, I did everything right. But I experienced a lot (or what felt like a lot) of negative variance. This session was a good challenge. It challenged my mental game. I feel anguished and had to call the session early on account of my emotional state. This is fine. It is fine for me to have losing sessions, and it is fine for me to feel frustration and anger when I experience a string of bad beats. Or even just one. Or even just lose a pot for any reason. I am emotionally invested in being a winning poker player. And that is okay. I would like to become a PLO $50 apex predator. I want to work on my game. I want to set goals. What should should I set? X amount of study per week. To put in as much high quality volume as I can. To make good quitting decisions. Intensive cardio every morning. To maintain a strict diet. Going for walks. Reading. Pursuing other interests. Living a balanced life. For study...

Introduction

Hello, and welcome to my poker blog. The purpose of this blog will be to chronicle my online poker play, as well as to provide an avenue for hand and session review. Allow me to get started with some biological data. My name is Zachary Young, and I am a 37-year-old poker player. Presently I am playing PLO $50 and PLO $100 on PokerStars and BetOnline. One of my weaknesses as a poker player is that I do not spend enough time engaged in studying poker and in hand review. Both of these activities are very important. I have many weaknesses in poker. One is my mental game, and trouble dealing with negative variance. I have many strengths as well. I am extremely experienced, I have spent some time studying the game (plo), and I am a resilient person. Next, a little hand review.  Hand History driven straight to this forum with DriveHUD Poker Tracking Software - http://drivehud.com Dealt to Hero: 8d 8c Qs Js HERO Raises To $1.75, SB Folds, BB Calls $1.25 A fairly standard button open....
